Site Preparation

Building Permits:

Prior to purchasing one of our quality products, we recommend that you check with your local township office first to find out the requirements in placing a shed, garage, gazebo or playset on your property . A set of guidelines may be required for you to follow which will advise you on "setback" requirements and determine where the shed can be placed in relation to front, side and rear property lines. Since all municipalities have differing regulations and requirements, we are unable to give advice on exactly what may be required of you. We are often asked to supply building specs and proof of insurance as part of the permit process and we are happy to assist whenever possible. Taking care of these issues is the responsibility of the property owner. Sealed architectural drawings are available, as necessary, for a fee.

Our Site Preparation Advice:

  • Dig out the grass 3" - 5" and create a level area 12" larger than the size of your shed.
  • Fill in the area with 3/4" crushed stone to allow for the water to drain away from your building.
  • A 4x4 pressure-treated edge may be helpful to eliminate the stone from washing away but is not required.
  • Concrete pads are also an option but are not required.

NOTE: We do not recommend using cinder blocks as a base for your shed. The blocks tend to lift when the ground freezes and thaws resulting in your shed becoming unlevel.

Site Access:

It is important to confirm that the prepared site is accessible to our delivery truck and trailer.

  • Our driver must have at least 2 feet of clearance on each side, depending on the width of your shed.
  • Please note that there must not be any trees, tree limbs or branches, shrubs or fences, or utility lines that would prohibit access for the truck and trailer to deliver the shed.
  • If in doubt, please contact us prior to placing your order.
  • Driver cannot be responsible for blocked access once order is placed and delivered.
  • Driver cannot be responsible for ruts in the lawn during delivery, although every precaution is taken to minimize any damage to your property.

Please take a moment to view the delivery photos and video below for an idea of what takes place during a shed delivery.

If your site is inaccessible, please contact us about purchasing a "shed kit" or our "build-on-site" service. The "build on site" service means that our skilled craftsmen will bring the components and build your shed or garage on your prepared site for a fee depending on the shed or garage purchased.

Site Preparation Services:

We offer local site preparation services - prices will vary depending on the size and slope of your site. If the structure is being delivered out of our local area, we recommend the use of a professional excavator to prepare your site. An incorrectly prepared site may void our warranty. We recommend calling a local excavator to provide you with an estimate, depending on the size of the shed or garage you are purchasing.

Testimonial:
"I purchased my shed from Fox's because they designed and built exactly what I wanted.  Also, they were able to easily make what I thought was a difficult delivery."  ~ Barry
